Dressing up

I am not a dress girl. They're just not something I feel overly comfortable in, jeans are my thing (and the fact I have around 40 pairs is testament to that) but this Christmas I saw a couple of dresses that really caught my eye and I decided to bite the bullet.

The first one I wore to a wedding, it's a gorgeous dress and really quite long which is good for me as I am most conscious about my legs. The downside being  that I had to wear heels with it and me and heels are not friends. I could (should) have probably sized down in this dress as it wasn't the best fit on me, but it's still a beautiful dress and I felt pretty good in it all the same. I wore it with my Orange coat from Evans which I am currently in love with. The heels lasted all of about an hour.

No idea why Matt is pulling this ridiculous face....

The second dress that is totally (and I mean completely) out of my comfort zone is this stunning ASOS sequin dress. It's body con - which is pretty full on and it's very booby, but I wore this for my work Christmas party and after a few glasses of wine, I wasn't too concerned with the tightness of it.... I did wear these amazing adjustable waist pants from Asda underneath which helped keep everything in check. They don't seem to be in stock anymore but I'd definitely recommend them if they come back in stock. I wore it with my really long ASOS Jersey cardigan for my own comfort, but again. after much wine, that was also removed...

All a bit meh....

I've fallen out of love with my wardrobe of late. I am not sure if it's the descent into Autumn, but I'm just struggling with what to wear. I'm mainly feeling rubbish about myself and I am not overly sure why. I have all kinds of ideas of outfits that I want to wear and then when I put them together, they just don't feel right.

These are the outfits I've felt the best in of late. No overly inspiring, huh?

I'm on the hunt for my perfect jumper (which has been a never ending quest for at least 2 years). I want slouchy, but sexy, not something that looks like a sack, but it doesn't seem to exist. This Yours jumper is the closest I've got, but it's a bit on the massive side.

Weekend away

I've just spent the weekend in Birmingham with the husband, the rentals and my godparents. All very lovely. I spend a lot of time away but I do have a tendency to over pack. I made a massive effort not to do that this weekend and managed with just the following essentials.

2 tops
1 jacket
A jumpsuit
2 x shoes

plus the necessaries (pants etc. commando is not my style and an PJ's - I have a phobia of sleeping in hotels without pyjamas).

Night out number 1:

Let's completely brush over just how much money I spent on these shoes. I absolutely adore them, but I can't even begin to justify how much  they cost. So let's imagine they were a bargain. (Husband, if you are reading this, let's pretend you haven't). They're flat and a little bit awesome.

I think I'm dancing....

Vest (XL) - H&M

Shoes - Acquazzurra

 Night out number 2:

Oh Jumpsuit, how I love you. I have so many now and I am obsessed. They are so comfy and easy to wear. Especially good when you have a big meal planned (which is always my plan).

Day 2 - Casual:

I love this top, but I wish it was bit longer. I feel like I'm forever pulling it down. And these shoes... well they're essentially carpet slippers. What's not to love?

after dark all cats are leopards

I'm supposed to be on a spending ban, but I am completely incapable of it. It's like my credit card has a little voice calling to me constantly from my purse.

I rarely go 'shopping' since I spend my entire life online, but my mother is a big fan, so last time I was up North we popped to the Metrocentre. It was good to visit a Simply Be and a Yours Clothing to actually get an idea of the clothes and fit before buying. It was not so good for my bank balance.

This outfit is nothing special really, but I feel really good in it. There's something about leopard print that makes me feel utterly confident. No clue what that is all about.

Excuse the crap hair. My hairdresser decided to give me an almost fringe which is single handedly the most annoying thing ever. It's too long to be an actual fringe, yet it won't go behind my ears, so I spend my days constantly touching my hair and giving myself a right greasy do. I have the ability of a 3 year when it comes to hairstyling so this is the result.

Magnificent 7th

Magnificent 7th header

Another month and here we are with today's Magnificent 7th theme. This month the idea was to let someone else dress you.

I didn't really let anyone dress me in this outfit, but I did ask my husband for his opinion (which is rare) on 2 different outfit options. This was the one he chose.

I worse this for my birthday dinner last month as I wanted to be comfy and smart. Jumpsuits are all kinds of awesome for comfort. I have about 5 now and I cannot get enough.

The necklace was a bargain from eBay and adds a touch of colour to an all black outfit. I'm loving statement necklaces at the moment.

I kept it simple with a black lace blazer that I've had forever and pink flats. The matte lipstick is by Mac and is 'All Fired Up', it has the most amazing staying power ever.

Friday, 30 May 2014

Hello people. It's been a while. I've bought a LOT of clothes lately but I never seem to be able to get any decent photos of me wearing them. These are far from decent, but I feel this outfit deserved a post and if I wait for my husband to do the honours, well it will never happen. This is the kind of outfit that I really love. It feels kind of cool.
These jeans have been a challenge. I love the style (ankle grazers are my favourite) but the colour is way out of my comfort zone. Fat legs and light denim... shudder...  But you know what, I wore them all day and out in public and no one batted an eyelid. Shocker.
I've been searching everywhere for a blazer but I can't for the life of me find one in the style I want. I'm all about the cardigans usually, but sometimes you just want to be a bit smarter than that. Most of the ones I have tried have been too short, where can I get a decent longline blazer??
I bought this coat on a whim to fill my jacket void when I had an M&S discount code and I'm pretty pleased with it. It's not too heavy so is ok for summer and it's kind of cool, right? I love the cocoon shape and the fact that it's not exactly subtle.
The top is also another current love of mine, it has a sheer back which adds a hint of sexiness, but it's not too revealing (the grey version is very revealing so I feel the need to wear a vest with it so as not to share my back fat with the world, one day I may stop giving any f*cks). I have a lot of the ASOS swing vests which are awesome, but sometimes you need a little sleeve. Please ASOS, more of these.

Magnificent 7th

Magnificent 7th header

I swear I have no idea where the days are going of late. I can't believe it's the 7th again already. This weeks theme is an outfit styled around your favourite accessory. Usually the only accessory you will see me in is a scarf. Once upon a time I didn't feel dressed without a necklace, then I fell out of love with them and haven't really worn much jewellery since.

I have, however, constantly lusted after Tatty Devines pieces. I had a custom necklace made for my wedding but I've never really been able to justify the price since then.

That was until ASOS had a 25% off event for students - and as my sister just happens to be one, I took advantage of her and had her order these 2 beauties which I have worn every day since. Not ideal in the sun though, I was slightly concerned I'd end up with some very odd sunburn.

This swallow necklace is a bit shorter than I'd like and was garrotting me as a result. I added a hair tie to the clasp to make it longer and now it's perfect. I don't think you need to wear anything fancy with these necklaces, they speak for themselves.

These jeans are my current favourite. They are 'Acid Wash' and remind me of something I'd have worn in the 80's. The fit is perfect, high waisted so no muffin top, really tight ankle and just enough stretch so they don't overly sag after a few days of wear.

Jump (for my love)

I am a massive fan of jumpsuits as I have mentioned many times before. Especially when I go away as you only need to pack one piece of clothing for a full outfit. Plus they are super comfy and look pretty cool. What more could you want?

My main trauma with a jumpsuit is my bottom half is bigger than my top, so they are usually a bit loose in places. This one has a gathered, elasticated waist which didn't sit right because of that so I've added a belt which you can't see, to reduce the baggy crotch look.

There is a zip down the back which is potentially traumatic for toilet trips, but there is enough movement in the jersey fabric that you can manage it without a toilet assistant.

These shoes are my current favourite things ever, I love the bright pink against the black. They are currently a bargainous £13.50 so I'm inclined to buy a second pair, you know, just in case....

No idea why I look like I am trying to snap my neck in these photos, perhaps I am trying to hide the double chin?

Magnificent 7th

Magnificent 7th header

So I've finally managed to take part in a Magnificent 7th post. The photos are really bad, but I'm struggling at the moment since I'm working ridiculous hours, it's always pretty poor light by the time I remember to get outfit photos. Must try harder. Sorry!

This months theme is "something you never wear" and I decided on these leather trousers. I used to wear leather trousers every weekend when I was at Uni to go clubbing and I thought I looked amazing. They were a nightmare to get back up after hours of sweaty dancing but I felt awesome in them so I wore them every week without fail!

Not so much these days. I had an idea of how this outfit would look in my head and it's just not right. The waistband on the trousers is very tight, so I'm grimacing somewhat... and I think me and Kimono's are not best friends. I love the idea of them and when I see others wearing them I think they look awesome, on me I think they maybe look frumpy? Maybe I'd prefer these trousers with a jacket (and an extra inch around the waist). Any tips for stretching leather??

I love the top and I also have it in cream, looks quite dressy for a jersey vest top and I'm a fan of swing tops since I find them pretty easy to wear. Maybe these trousers will be confined back to the never wear pile. Thankfully I paid the sale price and not the original or it would be serious buyers remorse.

3 for the price of 1.....

I'm attempting to get back into more regular posting, I've been fairly uninspired with my clothes (and myself) lately, but since I've returned from holiday (with white hair and a dayglo tan), I'm feeling a bit more like my old self and ready to start putting myself back out there.

I've spent so much money on clothes over the past few months, so I need to try to stop buying new clothes, but it's so very hard to stick to.....

Here's a few outfits that I've worn since I came back to work. Nothing ground breaking but they all felt good.

My work uniform is pretty much always jeans of some description plus top. I'm going to start digging out some of my massive dress collection to attempt to mix it up a bit.

This is my other purchase from the Cut for Evans range (now reduced!). I originally bought the trousers in this print too, but I should have sized up as they were a bit too much like leggings for me. I'll maybe still buy them in a bigger size at some point (once I'm allowed to spend, but they are in the sale.... so maybe?) This is the size 24 which fits over my chest pretty well, no gaping which is usually a massive problem for me with shirts. I wish it was a bit longer, but I'm almost 5'9" so most things are short on me anyway.

Studded pumps - Steve Madden (old)

This 2nd outfit is pretty simple, but look at those shoes... the shoe of my dreams! I seem to have an obsession with the ASOS swing vests at the moment and this is a slight variation on that theme. I want it in more colours please. These jeans are also my current favourites, they are really skinny around the ankles, have enough stretch but don't go baggy and they sit quite comfortably on my waist. I've now got 3 pairs and they are currently reduced... is 4 pairs a step too far??

Skinny Jeans (26) - ASOS Curve

Any finally... I bought this Kimono to take on holiday but didn't really need it. It's a nice change from my usual black cardigans so I expect this will get a lot of wear over the summer. I stupidly ordered this in a size too small but didn't realise and it barely fits around my big butt, but I'm ok with that :)

Right, I'm off to torture myself over the things I want but shouldn't be buying.....
